Peter Dick - String Theory

From the CD's liner notes:
"Improvisational music carries risk. It is a leap of faith, and gloriously unpredictable - the tunes, just jumping off points to something spontaneous each time. At some moments we are the driver, at others, the passenger - and both are okay. One must be able to recognize those moments when it is best to 'relinquish the wheel,' yet also feel free enough to do so - in essence, getting ourselves 'out of the way' so something new can come inhabit the space we've created. There is liberation in giving up the desire to 'control', in embracing the wisdom of the river by placing our faith in its currents. For myself, improvised music is largely driven by this tension between finesse or discipline on the one hand, and flow or raw-abandon on the other, and the balance between the two is ever-shifting. There are moments when our reach may exceed our grasp, but sometimes those moments can have the real 'spark'. My hope is for these pieces to be as potentially interesting and imperfect as we human beings are."
